Drone Daniel the Dispenser
Rowan found out that replanting trees can be really difficult in some remote places. So he invented Drone Daniel the Dispenser, a remote-controlled, battery-charged drone which carries seeds that can be released at the push of a button. Problem solved!

During the first Pioneers session which took place at Preston Park Museum, Rowan developed Drone Daniel the Dispenser, by adding more detail to the invention and his drawing. He also got to meet the other Pioneers and take a took around the museum!

Rowan spent more time at home developing his idea in his Inventor's Log. He even made a little comic to show how his idea works!
On a video call, Rowan met Andy Smithson from Teesside Hackspace to hear about the progress on Drone Daniel the Dispenser and how the invention was being made.

I was attracted to this project as I have built drones before and it was great to be able to put that skill to use for planting trees.
The use of CAD was a great tool for the project, it meant we could be sure all the parts would fit together before we made it and it meant that assembly went smoothly.
The use of 3D printing was a tremendous help for the project. 3D printing meant we could turn the computer drawing into a real, functional part in just a few clicks. Although Teesside Hackspace was closed for the pandemic, Chris has 3D printers at home so we were still able to produce the drone parts.
A highlight of the project was when we filmed the drone on top of the North Yorkshire Moors, it was a windy day but we persevered. We wanted ...

Rowan is clearly a very thoughtful inventor, he notices a lot of things in the world around him that need help. We can't wait to see what he invents next!
